Ammon Cunningham Wants You to Know About the Great Salt Lake

June 21, 2017
In his position as an avid travel blogger, Ammon Cunningham sees Utah as far more than his home. He loves his state and actively encourages travelers to visit because Utah has so much to offer. Some of the most magnificent travel destinations in the world are located in his state and he doesn’t want them kept secret any longer. For example, just outside Utah’s largest city and the state capital sits one of the greatest tourist attractions in the entire world, The Great Salt Lake.

Perhaps the most striking thing about the Great Salt Lake, as Ammon Cunningham frequently writes, is that, as big as it is, it was once a whole lot bigger. Currently the largest and deepest inland lake west of the Mississippi, it is interesting to note that the current lake is actually just a remnant of what was once the much larger Lake Bonneville. Over centuries, evaporation caused the water table to fall and leave behind the Great Salt Lake Desert, also known as the Bonneville Salt Flats. The Great Salt Lake is saltier than most other bodies of water, including the oceans, which means swimmers who venture in can float without sinking. However, in addition to the beaches on the south end, The Great Salt Lake also features a recreation area, including boat landings.
